Q: The following function is in a spreadsheet I inherited: =SUM(IF(FREQUENCY($D$14:$D$27, $D$14:$D$27)>0,1)) The effect is that it simply counts the number of cells containing numbers in cells d14:d27. Can I just change it for the COUNT function, which appears to do the same thing? But I don't know if there's something else it's doing that I haven't thought of. Thanks.
A: dont change the formula.. its not simply counting the number of cells containing numbers. it is counting the number of different numbers in the cells containing numbers so if D14 to D27 had the number 8 in every cell. the formula tells you that there is 1 number if you take the same sample and change some cells ...like D15 to a 6. then the formula will tell you that there are 2 different numbers in the range. the formula factors in that theres duplicate numbers, and treats the duplicates as 1 number. it also seems to ignore blanks. hope that made sense.
