Q: i want to delete my anti-virus software to replace it with the rogers yahoo online protection, it but i could not find the file on my control panel - add/remove programs. I can still see the antivirus icon on my taskbar and it's wroking perfectly fine. What should I do? I know it's bad to have two anti-virus programs in one computer. i remember before I downloaded the AVG sntivirus software from the internet
A: Try "start" "programs" and go to the folder/selection containing the old antivirus software. There should be an entry that says "uninstall". You can run the uninstall from there instead of "add/remove programs". Alternatively, use windows explorer to browse to your "/program files" folder and locate the old antivirus software's installation folder. The uninstall program will be in that folder or a subfolder of it. It may be best if you disable the old antivirus software first, prior to uninstalling it; although well written software will do this automatically as part of its uninstall process. You may be able to do this by rightclicking on the program icon in the task bar and selecting the appropriate option from the menu (if it has that option, something like "turn off antivirus" or "do not start program automatically", if the latter, you must reboot afterwards). You are correct, it is NOT good to run two antivirus programs at the same time. In some cases it can trigger false positives and even cause critical systems files to be deleted. If you must, use task manager and kill the "old" program "manually" right after booting up. BTW: AntiVIR is pretty good free software - I would be inclined to stick with it.
