A: If your computer came with a Windows XP Home disk, then you may boot off of that disk. When you get to the part where it asks if you would like to install or use the recovery console, select install. Select your C: drive for install and hit enter. It should come back and say that it detected an existing version of Windows and give you the option to create a 2nd installation or repair the old installation. Select repair and it will reinstall windows keeping all your existing programs, settings, and data. If you do not have an XP disk, then you may have recovery disks that restore your PC back to factory condition DESTROYING all data on it. If you know someone tech savvy, they could recover your files for you to an external USB drive.
