How do I change the default settings of Microsoft Word 2007?

Q: I want to change the Calibri 11 font to Times New Roman 12. I also want it to start with no spacing. Its very tiring to do it everytime I start MS Word.

A: when you start up word, it uses a standard "template" for any new document. Normally this is a file called "normat.dot". First, do a search on computer for "normal.dot" and find out where it is saved on your computer. next, go into word and set your font, spacing, etc. to whatever you want to be your default. then do a "save as". change the file type to "template" (.dot) and then set the file name to "normal" . Then save it in the same place as the current normal.dot file (ie: overwrite the existing normal.dot file). That should do it. or .... if you don't want to mess with your existing normal.dot, just save your new template file as something else like "mydefault.dot". then set mydefault.dot to be your standard template. I think in 2007 you have to go to the word button, go to word options, go to popular and check the "show developer toolbar" and then on the developer ribbon/toolbar there's an option to set the default template file. (I still use word 2003 so I'm not exactly sure where they moved the template option to. If you can't find it, search the help file (F1) for the template option) word 2007 may also use a different file name from normal.dot. the help screens will probably give more detail on what it's called.
