A: You can have an operating on an external USB hard drive all you have to do is insert the OS's CD e.g Windows and then select the USB hard disk from the list. Then once installed tap F12 on boot up then select USB from the list and then it will boot from your external hard drive. But you can also install two operating systems on to one hard drive by creating a second partition on your hard drive - A Partiton is a segment or part of your hard drive say if you had a 500GB hard drive you can split it into two segments of 200GB and 300GB (there is software you can download to make a second partition) Then when you come to install your 2nd operating system just select the second partition to install the OS on. Then when you come to boot you have two options and you can selct which one to boot. To be honest keeping two OS's on one hard disk is a lot easier but you need to make sure that both OS's have enough room for you to put all your required files onto.
