Do I need to download something? And what?

Q: I've watched my dvds on my laptop ever since I bought it. I know these dvds can play on this laptop. So why is it now telling me that I can't? When I put a dvd in and open windows media player, it says that the dvd can not be played and to lower my resolution. I did lower my resolution and it still gave the same message. The resolution can't go any lower and it still won't let it play. I have windows vista on a toshiba laptop (it was a gift to me, I don't suggest buying one). How can I get my dvds to play?

A: Try downloading VLC. It's a free DVD and audio/video player. Can the drive read data DVDs? It could also be a hardware problem.
