Q: Simply put, which is better for gaming? Thanks! And..is dual core the same as Core 2 Duo?
A: I assume you're comparing the AMD 64 X2 5000+. Both will be running at about the same speed (hence the same relative cost). They are both a bit older in technology so if you can swing it, step up to an E6750 or E7200, which are considerably faster for not much more. AMD's do not suck for gaming. They are just fine... those are just Intel fanboy's getting riled up :-) . I will say that the AMD's are terrible overclockers... the Intel Core 2 Duo's (and quads) shine in this area. These days the terms "Dual core" and "Core 2 Duo" are thrown around interchangeably, but if you want to get really technical, the Intel's prior to the Core 2 Duo were called the Intel "Dual Cores". The E2XXX series of Intel CPU's are "Dual Cores", and the more recent builds (E6750, E7200, E8400) are "Core 2 Duos".
